2012 Cabela’s Fly Rods
MTx Fly Rods
The MTx fly rods deliver top-of-the-line technology at a price significantly lower than comparable fly rods featuring the remarkable nano-resin technology from 3M. Available in weights from 4 to 10, and in a variety of lengths, each will carry an MSRP of only $399.99.
Cabela’s MTx fly rods will be up to 60 percent stronger and 30 percent lighter than previous models in the same class, thanks to a construction process that uses 3M High Performance Resin. For anglers, that means lightweight, powerful, fast-action fly rods that deliver even more sensitivity than their predecessors.
MTx rods sport skeletonized aluminum reel seats with a graphite insert. The stripper guide is an REC Recoil guide, which is made of lightweight, durable nickel titanium, and always returns to its original position even after being pressed flat against the blank. All other guides are single-foot design, except the tip top. A carbon-fiber rod tube and a rod sock are included.
L-Tech Salt Fly Rods
Designed specifically to handle the demanding environment encountered by saltwater fly anglers, Cabela’s L-Tech Salt fly rods help you throw tighter loops for more accurate casts—even when fishing heavier flies in windy conditions. The quality high-modulus graphite blanks have a fast action and offer the beefiness needed to battle big fish and to repeatedly pick up long lengths of line off the water’s surface.
The 8- and 9-weight versions in this series have the fully exposed L-Tech reel seat that has been extremely popular with freshwater anglers for years. The 10- through 12-weights have reel seats that sport a gun-metal-gray aluminum frame for added strength. The stripper guide is an REC Recoil guide, which is made of lightweight, durable nickel titanium, and always returns to its original position even after being pressed flat against the blank. All other guides are double-foot design, except the tip top. A rod tube and a rod sock are included. MSRP: $249.99.
TLr Fly Rod
The TLr, which was designed to be an update of Cabela’s affordable and popular Traditional II series fly rods, turned out so nice it earned its own place in Cabela’s fly-fishing lineup.
These rods feature high-modulus graphite construction. They are lighter, faster, and cast better than any other rods in this price range ($130 to $150, depending on length/weight).
The moderate-fast action is great for beginners and intermediate casters, but also will appeal to experienced anglers who like to fish with a somewhat slower casting stroke.
Woven-graphite reel seats have double up-locking rings. Black anodized aluminum is used on the reel seats on 7-weights and higher.
Two 11-foot Switch models (6- and 8-weights) and two Spey versions (13-foot, 8-weight and 14-foot, 9-weight) are available in this collection.
