Classic Fly Patterns: Golden Girl (Steelhead or Trout Streamer Pattern)
Created by Roderick Haig-Brown of British Columbia in the 1940s, the Golden Girl has long been a great winter steelhead pattern. I tie it in smaller sizes (#6-8) on fish it as a streamer for eastern trout.
Hook: #2/0-8 streamer (or heavy steelhead hook)
Thread: Black
Tail: Orange hackle fibers
Body: Gold tinsel
Throat: Orange hackle fibers (or yellow)
Underwing: Orange calf tail (or white)
Wing: Golden pheasant tippet feathers
