Abaco Guides Ask for "No-Build" Zone
The Abaco Fly-Fishing Guide Association is asking the Bahamian government to declare around 1,800 acres of coastline in south Abaco off-limits to development. But it has taken more than a year for the Department of Physical Planning to respond, reports Megan Reynolds in The Tribune, because the department claims it is consumed with development priorities. “AFFGA wants to ensure the rich biodiversity supporting such scientific studies [as those by Bonefish and Tarpon Trust], as well as the fly-fishing industry and local fisheries is protected as members fear developers of resorts and marinas will be attracted to the area by its access to deep water.”
