Saving Mangrove Forests
Mangrove forests help to clean carbon from the atmosphere, yet are under extreme threat. “Their carbon sequestration potential is significant in helping to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide,” says Alfredo Quarto. “Mangrove forests store the most carbon per hectare of any other forest type.” Alfredo Quarto works to protect these unique ecosystems as cofounder and co-director of the Mangrove Action Project (MAP), whose goal is to preserve and protect mangrove forests around the world. Read more about Quarto and the importance mangrove forests play in climate change, in this piece by Dahr Jamail at Truth Out.
