Orvis Adds New Designs to “Invasives-Aware” Wading Boots

October 12, 2010 By: Alex Cerveniak

Its almost always a good thing for consumers when two leaders in any industry join forces, and that is definitely the case with the River Guard Ultralight wading boot which incorporates Korkers’ innovative Omnitrax interchangeable sole system (version 2.0).  One of the nice perks in this situation is that now anyone who currently owns a pair of Korkers boots with their Omnitrax interchangeable sole system can now get their hands on Orvis’s exclusive Ecotrax outsole which incorporates one of the more highly acclaimed metal studs out there, Orvis’s PosiGrip screw-in studs.

Each of the new Orvis wading boots below will be available directly from Orvis’s website or your local Orvis dealer in January 2011

River Guard Ultralight with Korkers

River Guard Ultralight Boots

The River Guard Ultralight boot comes standard with their studded EcoTrax outsole, an Orvis exclusive.  The upper is constructed of synthetic microfiber which is durable and lightweight.  The rubber boot wrap helps protect the toe, sidewalls, and heel from abrasive surfaces such as rock and debris.  Orvis has improved their lacing system which allows this boot to be tightened or loosened with less effort than standard laces.  Additional Korkers soles are available, and this boot will accept all of the Korkers brand outsoles (version 2.0).  Available in men’s whole sizes from 6 to 14.  $225

Streamline

Streamline Boots

The Streamline wading boot is a new and updated version of their entry-level wading boot line.  The Streamline is extremely lightweight, but offers great support, comfort, and ankle protection.  The newly revised padded neoprene collar and webbing eyelets offer a tight and secure fit.  The boot has a reinforced toe box, which is wrapped in a durable synthetic material.  The new upper material is a durable, high-density nylon.  Available in whole sizes from 4 to 14 with either a standard felt sole ($69), or with the River Guard studded rubber soles ($98).

Clearwater II

Clearwater II

The Clearwater II is a lightweight version of Orvis’s Easy-On Brogue.  Built on the same last, these boots are lightweight, yet rugged.  The synthetic upper resists damage from rocks and debris as well as rot, mildew and UV radiation.  They have work- and hunting-boot welt construction to minimize sole torsion.  The Clearwater II also features complete over-the-ankle protection and support  in the form of durable polyurethane and high-density nylon mesh.  The toe cap and heel counter are wrapped in textured rubber to add protection.  (It is also worth noting that the midsole depth on the felt version is sufficient to add their PosiGrip™ screw-in studs.)  Available in charcoal and tan in men’s whole sizes from 6 to 14.  The plain felt version retails for $98.  With the River Guard w/ Ecotrax sole, they are priced at $169.

Rubber Overshoe

Rubber Overshoe

With the heightened awareness of anglers concerning invasive species, more and more people are utilizing studded rubber soles.  One issue with this is that the studs can do a lot of damage to floors in boats, homes, planes and retail establishments.  Orvis’s Rubber Overshoe is designed so that you can simply slip them on over your wading boots to cover studs or grimy felt.  Like slippers or sandals, they are easy to slip on and off without using your hands or bending down.  At just over 13 ounces per pair in the large size, they’re extremely lightweight.  Available in charcoal in sizes L (up to 11) and XL (up to 15).  $29.95
