“Early Season Big Trout” (New Zealand)
“We’ve saved the best for last, in this episode of Pure Fly NZ we are hunting trophy trout on a big river in the Canterbury hills. As is typical for early season fly fishing in the South Island the weather has been atrocious with multiple days of heavy rain and high winds. All the rivers are running high and dirty and with a snowstorm in the forecast you might think we’d be home rugged up next to the fire. The cover of high water can often bring massive brown trout out of their hidey holes and tempt them to feed out in the open. This is not picture-post card angling, you will get cold and wet but if you can be in the right place at the right time the fish of your dreams will be there for the taking.”
