Review: Infinity X1 Headlamp

January 14, 2025 By: Johnny Carrol Sain

The Infinity X1 headlamp is one of those rare pieces of gear that actually delivers on its promises. You’re getting a premium headlamp that punches well above its weight class. Yes, it’s a bit bulky compared to some ultralight options, but the trade-off brings you impressive durability and some genuinely useful smart features that make it a standout choice whether you’re rigging up at dawn or traipsing down the trail at dusk.

Design and Build Quality

The X1 feels reassuringly solid in hand while somehow keeping the weight under 4 ounces. That’s a neat trick for something this robust. The IPX8 waterproof rating means it can handle full submersion up to a meter deep for half an hour—more than enough protection for those unexpected dunkings (if it gets wet, hopefully it’s in your pocket) or sudden mountain storms. I’ve seen it shrug off drops from shoulder height onto rocky riverbanks. If you’re rough on your gear (because sometimes the best spots require a bit of bushwhacking), the X1’s build quality won’t let you down.

Lighting System and Performance

The 700-lumen output is seriously impressive—about 14 times brighter than your smartphone’s flashlight. But raw power isn’t everything, and the X1’s versatility really shines through its thoughtfully designed lighting modes.

The star of the show is the broadview mode, offering an innovative 220-degree illumination that helps you see practically everything in front of you—perfect for sorting through gear in low light. When you need to spot your marker on the far bank, spot mode focuses all that power into a concentrated beam. Flood mode strikes a nice balance for general use, and the red night vision mode is a godsend for preserving your night vision while picking out flies or starting a pot of coffee without waking everyone else.

Smart Features That Actually Matter

One of my favorite features is the hybrid power system. Being able to use either rechargeable or standard alkaline batteries means you’re never stuck without options when you’re miles from anywhere. You’ll get about 5 hours on the highest setting. Not bad, and in most situations, perfectly adequate.

Value and Warranty

I found a three-pack offer for $34.99 at Walmart. This pack includes three Infinity X1 700 L headlamps, three rechargeable 3.7 V/900 mAh Li-ion batteries, three USB-C cables for charging, and nine AAA alkaline batteries. Even the standard $16.95 retail is a steal. And did I mention the lifetime warranty? It’s rare to see companies stand behind their products at this price point, but Infinity, again, delivers. When you factor in the current three-pack offer paired with that warranty, it becomes almost a no-brainer. The hybrid power system means you’ll save money in the long run, and the build quality suggests you won’t be shopping for a replacement anytime soon.

Room for Improvement

No product is perfect. The form factor is a bit chunky compared to some competitors, and you’ll need to spend time getting familiar with all the lighting modes to make the most of them. Battery life at maximum brightness could be better, but that’s a common trade-off for this much power.

The Bottom Line

The Infinity X1 headlamp is one of those practical pieces that makes you wonder why all headlamps aren’t designed in a no-nonsense way and, more importantly, priced in a no-nonsense way. It’s thoughtfully engineered, built to last, and an exceptional value—especially with the current three-pack deal. While it might be slightly bigger than ultralight alternatives, the combination of powerful output, smart features, and bomb-proof construction makes it a winner. The lifetime warranty is just icing on the cake. When you’re way down the creek come twilight, reliable lighting isn’t just a convenience—it’s essential to finding a path back to the truck. The X1 is an investment in lighting that’s easy to recommend.
