“A Fly Fishing Story on Slate Run”
“We’ve heard many stories of anglers fishing Slate Run with mixed results. Some anglers have questioned where the fish are after trying their luck. The combination of the beauty and allure of challenging fish enticed us to try our chances at catching these fish.
John Kolb teams up with brothers Clayton and Cameron for a two day camping and fishing trip to fly fish this tributary on Pine Creek in Lycoming County.
We were impressed with a healthy population of brook and brown trout. We were awestruck by the cascading slate cliffs that run along the stream and the various water falls that held large browns.
We found most fish holding in the shallow tails of long pools. These fish required a stealthy approach and delicate presentations. We had success on this stream but the fish we fooled were far less than the fish we spooked or missed with many last second rejections.”
