Better Saltwater Casting
Guide Jon B. Cave offers some excellent advice for improving your saltwater casting techniques, including getting rid of the “jab,” when to cast sidearm or with your rod at 45 degrees, and perfecting the double-haul (not a bad thing to learn even if you fish only in freshwater).
“To execute a haul, pull down sharply on the line at the same time the rod achieves its maximum bend during the turnover or speed-up portion of the forward or back stroke as the case may be. The haul should stop at the same time the rod tip is stopped at the end of each stroke.” On the RIO Blog.
