How to Tie the Dorato Hare’s Ear

Producer: Tim Flagler  |  Tightline Studios

Videographer Tim Flagler on the Dorato Hare’s Ear, tied here by Matt Grobert:  “The Dorato Hare’s Ear was developed by Bill Dorato of Albany, New York, many years ago. Originally intended to imitate a newly emerged caddis, it does an admirable job of imitating mayflies as well. In addition to a dead drift, it’s especially effective when skittered or skated.”

Beautiful fly, looks deadly. Any reason why the hackles can’t be wound forward together?

You can certainly wrap them both together if you want. I like to wrap the grizzly second so I can control the color/hue by the number of wraps I make with it.
