The Semper Fleye
“Big baitfish imitations need to have the right profile and movement in the water to fool the predators feeding on baitfish. Saltwater legend Bob Popovics has ‘cracked the code’ several times with his innovative fly designs, and the fly tied in this video is no exception of his creativity. The fly consists of only a few materials—mainly bucktail and Schlappen feathers and creates a great striped bass fly on simply manipulating the materials effectively. The design relies on the mass of collar hackles to give it bulky and buoyancy, but most importantly, it uses a novel method of attaching the long tail hackles to give improved action. In this video have the skilled fly tyer and fly fisher Jason Taylor behind the vise to demonstrate the tying of Bob’s Semper Fleye.”
