Matt’s Midge Fly Tying Instructions
“Matt Miles created this midge pattern while waiting for the guide season in Colorado in 1999. He wanted a fly that was easier to see and to imitate a singular insect, not just another midge cluster pattern. This simple to tie pattern is deadly on any tailwater or any watershed that has midges present. I’ve personally used this pattern on my home waters, the White and North Fork Rivers in Arkansas, to great success. It comes in handy when fish are taking midges you can’t see. But being the pattern that it is, you can see it. The Macrame yarn wing helps with flotation and increases visibility as well.”
