“There is a certain therapeutic aspect of watching/listening to Davie McPhail’s YouTube videos, but from a pure fishing and tying standpoint, he’s got some winners, no doubt. When I saw this pattern a few months ago, I had been messing around with different styles of CDC wings on dry flies. I liked the simplicity of the wing style, and as I tied up a few and tried them out, I was surprised at how well it floated. Since then, I’ve fished them on some hatches around the west here and in Argentina with great success. So now there’s a couple of rows in my mayfly box dedicated to this style of pattern.
