Dick Cabela: Selling the Great Outdoors
Dick Cabela, founder the outdoor-goods chain Cabela’s, passed away recently at the age of seventy-seven. An article by Amy Merrick highlights the culture that grew up around the chain, which began in western Nebraska with selling flies. “The growth of Cabela’s reflects Americans’ odd relationship with the outdoors,” writes Merrick, “we mythologize it even as we pave it over.” Via The New Yorker.
