California-based The Fly Shop has announced the welcome of Brian O’Keefe to their Pro-Staff team. O’Keefe will host fly fishing trips around the world, and will join The Fly Shop’s travel department at fly fishing shows and events across the country.

Brian O’Keefe joins The Fly Shop Pro-Staff Team

The Fly Shop is excited and pleased to announce veteran fly fishing adventurer and industry standout, Brian O’Keefe, has joined The Shop’s Pro-Staff Team. In addition to hosting fly fishing trips around the world, Brian will be joining The Fly Shop’s award-winning travel department at fly fishing shows and events across the country. Brian will also be available for private party and fly fishing club presentations upon request.

Brian has over four decades of experience as a guide, professional photographer, manufacturer representative and fly fishing adventurer, and will be instrumental in The Fly Shop’s effort to continually push the envelope in developing eco-fly fishing travel destinations. Brian’s ability to sniff out and develop off-the-beaten-path fisheries is legendary, and will no doubt help usher in the next ten years of global fly fishing for The Fly Shop.

I have combined a lifetime of fly fishing photography, guiding, casting instruction and sales with a lot of serious, on-the-water fly fishing. I sold my first fly fishing photo when I was 16 – that was 46 years ago! Over that span of time I’ve had countless international adventures, fishing and photographing as many interesting places as possible. My angling travels have taken me to such distant destinations as Tonga, Bikini Atoll, New Zealand (first trip was in 1973), Chile, Argentina, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Kashmir, England, Brazil, Belize, Nicaragua and many more. As much as I like these exotic trips, I am just as much a home-water fisherman. Near my residence in Powell Butte, Oregon, I enjoy local rivers like the Metolius, Deschutes, Crooked and John Day, and the many lakes of central Oregon.

Working as a fly fishing river guide in the late 70’s and early 80’s in Oregon, Northern California (for The Fly Shop), and Alaska, well-prepared me for the next season of life – as a Northwest and Alaska fly tackle sales rep – a job which allowed me to roam the American West for well over twenty years.

Over this time I have also enjoyed a nice working relationship with most of the fly fishing magazines, as well as providing images for Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, Outside Magazine, and many tackle catalogs, books and websites. And speaking of websites, Todd Moen and I started Catch Magazine in 2007, a photo- and video-driven online fly fishing magazine.

I am now proud to be working with The Fly Shop as their Travel Ambassador. This position is the perfect place to take 43 years of international travel experience. Having worked at many lodges and as a private outfitter, I have a pretty good idea how things should run, both on the water and on the logistics side. I hope to help traveling anglers avoid all the mistakes I have made over the years, and to introduce them to some of the finest fly fishing destinations on earth! – Brian O’Keefe
