New Charitable Foundation Established to Protect and Support the World’s Best Angling Destinations

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, a specialty travel company known to anglers around the world for delivering the very best in international fishing, announced today the establishment of the Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation – an effort specifically created to enhance communities, build partnerships and support conservation in places where great fishing is found. This new project will provide grants and resources to support priority conservation needs, vital community projects, and educational efforts in communities and areas directly linked to international angling destinations.

Oftentimes, exceptional angling is located in remote areas – destinations that often face unique challenges without having the support for small to medium-scale community and conservation needs. As part of their overall business model, Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures has always been committed to supporting the local communities, fisheries and ecosystems that are directly linked to destination angling and fly fishing travel. To create an even larger impact and make more of a difference, Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures has established the Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation to significantly build upon these resources.

The Foundation will directly support the conservation needs, community projects, and educational efforts where Yellow Dog customers travel and where Yellow Dog is currently doing business. This overall area of operations includes 21 countries and ten U.S. states. Whether it’s the purchase of laptop computers for a grade school on Andros Island, funds that support enforcement and monitoring of catch-and-release flats fishing in Belize, or support for angler access initiatives throughout the U.S. West, the Yellow Dog Community and Conservation Foundation will work and focus on the issues that sustain the areas anglers travel to and care about.

While company foundations and philanthropy efforts are common in the world of outdoor recreation, the YDCCF model is totally unique to the fly fishing travel industry. Through this Foundation program, when an angler books a fishing trip through Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures, a portion of the standard trip cost will be donated directly from Yellow Dog’s own commissions to the Foundation in the name of the client. On top of that, when an angler selects and books a participating lodge or destination, that operation will also match Yellow Dog’s contribution, resulting in a modest yet meaningful monetary gift being generated from each applicable booking. It is important to mention that the full amount of this donation is made entirely by Yellow Dog and the lodges on behalf of each trip booking, which means that there is never an additional cost added to any trip or invoice in order to support this project. With thousands of customers booking trips with Yellow Dog each year, these individual donations and contributions will add up quickly. To take full advantage of this matching funds program, anglers will be able to look for the “Participating Lodge” YDCCF logo on the Yellow Dog website and catalog to identify which operations are participating.

One of the things that sets anglers apart from other recreationalists is the great lengths they will go to pursue gamefish and – in turn – protect and enhance the fisheries, communities and the wild places linked to great fishing. Since first starting Yellow Dog Flyfishing Adventures nearly 20 years ago, Yellow Dog co-owners Jim Klug and Ian Davis have always included philanthropy and supporting conservation efforts as part of their business philosophy. “The one thing that just about everyone in this industry has in common,” Klug observes, “is an appreciation and an understanding of the importance of conservation to our sport.” Ian Davis echoes that experience, adding, “Over the years we’ve found that by supporting the right groups and relevant projects in the communities in which we work and fish, we can protect and enhance the places that we love – both now and well into the future.”
