Mia Sheppard Joins Winston Field Advisor Team
The R.L. Winston Rod Company is very pleased to announce that Mia Sheppard has joined the Winston Field Advisor Team. Two time world champion spey caster, accomplished guide, conservationist, upland bird hunter, skier and mother, Mia grew up in Tennessee, chasing trout and hiking the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains. Fly fishing caught her attention in 1996 and in 2001, Marty Sheppard, her husband, introduced her to spey casting, and connecting with steelhead. Together they purchased Little Creek Outfitters, guiding anglers into steelhead, trout and smallmouth bass on Oregon Rivers.
Committed to conservation, she works for the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, is a river steward for Native Fish Society, the conservation chair for IWFF and supporter of Deschutes River Alliance, Trout Unlimited, and Casting For Recovery. Mia has contributed to the books; Wild Steelhead: the Lure and Lore of a Pacific Northwest Icon and 50 Best Places Fly Fishing the Northwest.
“I’m honored to join the Winston team and be a part of a company that is just as dedicated and passionate about conservation as they are with developing quality rods that perform for hardcore anglers. One of my first double hand rods was the 7133, the reputation for excellence and performance was earned the first time I cast it. I feel the beauty and spirit with each cast. A Winston rod is pure soul! As a business owner, teacher, and conservationist I take pride in providing anglers with a quality experience and look forward to putting a Winston rod in the hands of anglers and working with the Winston team to carry on the legacy of building and promoting fly fishing rods with soul.” – Mia Sheppard
“We could not be happier to have Mia Sheppard join the diverse team of anglers and industry professionals on the Winston Field Advisor staff. Mia’s energy is absolutely contagious. She is extremely pro-active in the fly fishing industry. Along with being an outfitter, owner and guide, she makes frequent contributions to magazines and books, is proactive in conservation and also easily recognized as one of the top women spey casters in the world. Most importantly, Mia’s view of the industry and rod performance is a natural parallel to our own. We are honored to have her on our team and proud that she will be a leader carrying the Winston flag forward.”
