Smoked Out Salmon
Marijuana farms on the banks of Northern California’s rivers are severely impacting salmon habitat and population. “It’s not just the water they’re taking out of the streams but the chemicals and nutrients they’re putting into the water,” says executive director for the Golden Gate Salmon Association, John McManus. And Scott Greacen, executive director of Friends of the Eel River, warns that without increased regulation for pot growers some of California’s North Coast salmon runs could face extinction.
