Agriculture and Wetlands
Agriculture and water quality are often at odds. A recent NPR article features the rise of industrial fertilizer and phosphorus mines and its impact on wetlands and watersheds. “Wherever it accumulates, rain washes it into streams, lakes and estuaries, where it’s an ecological disaster,” says Kenneth Staver, a scientist with the University of Maryland’s Wye Research and Education Center.
