Smith Optics Receives Coveted 2013 Editors Choice Award from Outdoor Life Magazine
Ketchum, ID (April 30, 2013) – Smith Optics, renowned for its premium eyewear that integrate performance and style, received the coveted Editors Choice Award from Outdoor Life Magazine for the Chief Techlite Glass Sunglass (MSRP $179-$219). The Chiefs were tested and scored by Outdoor Life editor, Todd Kuhn, as well as two commercial fisherman based in Gulfport, Miss., who spend the majority of their lives on and around the water. Graded for durability, lens quality, comfort, hinge quality, fit and finish and impact resistance, the Chiefs were the only sunglasses to score all A’s in every category.
Using the same technology and materials found in scientific instruments, Smith Optics developed the most optically precise lenses available for fishing and other outdoor pursuits. Techlite Polarized Glass lenses are crisp, clear, and precise. By absolutely minimizing lens thickness to provide a 20% weight reduction over standard glass lenses, the total frame weight rivals any sunglass on the market. Each lens is optically corrected using Tapered Lens Technology to eliminate distortion and the utilization of a nine-layer construction set up manages all available light to maximize clarity and eye comfort. The addition of a multi-layer Anti-Reflective (AR) mirror coating absorbs back light effects while a permanent hydroleophobic coating protects the lens and mirror coatings by repelling water, dirt, fingerprints, and grease.
The frames are constructed using proprietary Evolve technology, a bio based material that outperforms traditional materials in durability and shape memory and improves performance while reducing waste and pollutants typically found in other sunglasses. The addition of water-repellent Megol at the nose and temple pads gently grips the skin to keep glasses in place, and gently adheres to the skin as it interacts with perspiration and moisture, for a secure comfortable fit that lasts all day.
