Wanting on the Dean

On the water it is easy to get stuck in our own heads and think only about ourselves and about our fish caught (or lost), forgetting the beauty and friendship that surrounds us. And after the existential question What is it like to want? posed by his wife as they waited for diner pancakes and coffee,  Louis Cahill finds the answer on the Dean River in British Columbia.

“I don’t deserve that fish. I don’t deserve this day on this beautiful river. I don’t deserve to fish with these good men. That’s what it’s like to want.” Yet Cahill leaves his readers filled.
