Push for Hawaiian Gamefish Designation for Bonefish
The over-harvesting of Hawaiian bonefish through the use of monofilament gill nets has been of concern to some anglers, specifically brought to attention in the recent weeks via photos of bonefish in a market taken by Capt. Terry Duffield. Now Duffield is leading the charge to designate the o’io as a “gamefish,” banning their bulk sale in supermarkets while still allowing “catch and keep by rod and reel for personal consumption.” You can read Duff’s open letter on the Orvis blog as well as help conservation of bonefish by signing a petition to the governor of Hawaii.
