Midge Life Cycle Explained

While the purpose of Bighorn River guides Steve Galletta’s and David Palmer’s post on midges is to explain midge fishing on their home river, it rings true for any river where the insects may be present.  Midge fishing can be extremely frustrating, due to the tiny flies and also the unique nature in which trout will sip a midge, but also very rewarding.  “Carry a wide variety of patterns in each stage, be patient, observe how the fish are reacting to and feeding on the emergence and make an exact imitation.”
