Scientist Spar Over Fish Stocks
As a follow-up to the story we mentioned last week about worldwide fish declines, New York Times “Green” writer Felicity Barringer notes that even within the university community, scientists cannot agree on how bad the worldwide fisheries decline really is. Apparently, whether estimates are catch-based or biomass-based and include worldwide data may be skewing estimates up or down. “Even without the aid of mathematical modeling, it is possible to predict that fish population debates themselves will remain sustainable for some time to come.”
