Gateway “Easy On/Easy Off” Hooks
“No Tie, Easy On, Easy Off” Hooks and Loop Lock Fly Fishing System
In March, MidCurrent sat down with the folks from the Gateway Hook Company to see first-hand whether their patented “easy on/easy off” hook-eye made sense. After multiple years of product testing, the Gateway Hook Company will be introducing the first true “easy on/easy off”, “no-thread” system this Fall.
The system allows the angler to attach the fly to the tippet without having to thread the tippet through the eye of the hook, using any standard tippet material and without special tools or attachments. Since Gateway hooks evolved from traditional hooks they can be adapted to most, if not all, fly patterns, and the angler can carry flies tied on either type of hook and use them interchangeably. Gateway Hooks will be available November 1, 2010 for $2.75 to $7.75 per pack at their Web site.
