Orvis Announces 2010 Freshwater Fly Fishing Guide of the Year
The Orvis Company has selected Capt. Joe Demalderis as the 2010 Freshwater Fly Fishing Guide of the Year. “Joe D,” as he is called by those close to him, has been fly fishing for more than 40 years and guiding for 20. He guides fly anglers on the Upper Delaware River system on the New York and Pennsylvania border, one of the most technically challenging river systems in the world. Seasonally, Demalderis also guides fly anglers on the New Jersey shore, Lake Erie tribs for steelhead, and Patagonia for trout. Demalderis’s love for “The D” has driven him to give back to the resource that has given him so much. Joe serves on the Board of Director’s for the Friends of the Upper Delaware River, the leading non-profit conservation organization for the region.
Over the years Joe has built a solid reputation among clients, other guides, and fly fishing industry professionals. Said Tom Rosenbaeur of Orvis, “I’ve fished with him and have watched him with clients many times. Joe is the consummate professional fishing guide–he’s fun, interesting, patient, and knows the water like he knows his own back yard. I would recommend him without hesitation.”
