Bellingham Herald columnist Roger Phillips notes that his most underused pieces of outdoors gear are electronic devices. “I better trust the skills and the experiences I’ve accumulated in a lifetime spent outdoors because I don’t want some buzzards to find me in the desert clutching my GPS or cell phone and using my last gasps to pray to the Energizer Bunny.”
