"One Right Fly"
In this morning’s Edmunton Sun, Neill Waugh writes about the notion that there is, as John Gierach has said, only one “right” fly.
“These were the ‘spinner’ version of the stream trout’s favorite food source; which meant they had already hatched, flown to the creek-side bushes to go through another costume change, returned to hover and dance above Prairie’s sparkling riffles, mate, lay their eggs, then die. If a mayfly was a fat German lady, this could make a pretty decent opera. There’s a lot of tragedy happening out there on an Alberta trout stream.”
