Rodmaker’s World Washed Away

Bob Audette writes in the Brattleboro Reformer about well-known bamboo rodmaker Robert Goreman, whose craft and livelihood was washed away by Irene on August 28.  “For the past 20 years, Robert Gorman’s spot along the Green River has been his refuge.  There he lived in a refurbished Airstream trailer, splitting his time between the banks of the river and his nearby shop where he handcrafted bamboo fly-fishing rods.”

Robert,One rod builder to another, I’m so sorry to hear about your recent loss, but happy to know that you are O.K.

Gorman’s Green River rods were, dollar-for-dollar, the best there were. I hope some well-heeled flyfisher has the good sense to set this really good guy back up in business. Sure wish I could.
