“No matter where you are in the world, conditions are going to force fish. In heat and drought fish will drop out or nose in to riffles. In floods, fish may get pushed into recesses of backwaters and side channels, or simply get pushed out and into lower reaches of rivers or into main stems. The water in this valley was high, gushing and flooding several times in the weeks leading to our arrival. It was cold and the few fish that were higher in the system were simply not showing. So… a lot of walking, poking about, and endless hours later… we found one. Now, don’t screw it up!:
