Einarsson Fly Fishing Launches New Reel Series
Based in Isafjordur, Iceland, Einarsson Fly Fishing says its mission is to capture the essence of artisan principles while embracing cutting-edge technologies in design and manufacturing. All Einarsson reels are machined and assembled at their factory in Iceland.
Plus Series
The aluminum components in the Einarsson Plus Series reels are machined out of aricraft grade 6061 T6 aluminum and are anodized to Type II specifications to prevent the effects of saltwater corrosion. All machining and assembly is done at their factory in Iceland, with the exception of their bearings, which are engineered specifically for Einarsson by a European engineering firm.
Einarsson has designed a new drag system for the Plus Series reels. The drag system they have developed lowers required start-up inertia by overcoming break-away friction, alleviating both the shock and brief delay in allowing line to be pulled from the reel. This smooth delivery translates into more control at the take. Einarsson says that for the first time ever in a fly reel, break-away friction is actually zero. The reel system also effectively levels out shockwaves during a take or fight, such as those from jumping and head shaking.
Plus Series reels are available in three sizes: The 5+, for 5- and 6-weight lines ($430); the 7+, for 7- and 8-weight lines($460); and the 9+, for 9- and 10-weight lines($490). At this point in time, United States consumers can buy only direct from the factory.
