Tarpon Gold Cup Set for June 18-22
From June 18-22, 25 fly anglers will compete in the 49th annual Gold Cup Invitational Tarpon Tournament in Islamorada, FL. Originally a spin, plug and fly tournament, the Gold Cup moved to its all-fly format in 1972.
The all-release tournament limits tippet strength to 16-pound test. Fishing begins with staggered starts at 5:45am and continues until 3:00pm daily. Scoring is compiled on a points basis for release and weight fish. Release fish must be 48 inches in length and weight fish must exceed 70 pounds. Entry fees are $1,250 per angler with proceeds benefitting children’s support groups in the Florida Keys.
