  • While sometimes labeled “good distractions,” researchers have found focused recreation such as fly fishing helps returning veterans cope with PTSD and assimilation back to civilian life.  “To combat PTSD — which is the overload of your senses due to traumatic experiences — you have to put someone in a serene, calm, beautiful environment,” says Army Capt. David Folkerts. “And trout don’t live in ugly places.”
