Texas Angler Wins March Merkin

Dr. Greg Smith of Galveston has won the March Merkin Permit Tournament in Key West.  Catching and releasing four permit for a point total of 513, vaulted Smith and his guide, Captain Scott Collins, to the top of the pack.  Defending champion Mike Dawes, with guide Captain Don Gable, placed in third.  All proceeds from the tournament after the deduction of direct tournament costs will be donated to the Tarpon & Bonefish Trust.
