2011 “Waters to Watch” List
The National Fish Habitat Action Plan (www.fishhabitat.org) this week released their 2011 “Waters to Watch” list, a collection of 10 “rivers, streams, lakes and estuaries that will benefit from strategic conservation efforts to protect, restore or enhance their current condition over the next year.”
You can download their most recent report in .pdf format, but the most impressive part of their Web project is the National Fish Habitat Action Plan map and data web tool, which was developed by the U.S. Geological Survey’s Biological Informatics Program. It visually divides the entire U.S. into regions that are ranked by habitat degradation risk. And it overlays areas where partnerships with various conservation groups are active.
