"Holy Water" Vs. "Wholly Water"
Writer Kathy Etling finds that even on glorious rivers like Michigan’s Au Sable, nothing is guaranteed — especially if you are used to fishing for stocked trout. She also describes her experiences fishing at Gates Lodge.
“The Au Sable’s Big Water stretch begins at Wakely Bridge and runs to Mio Dam. Fly-anglers can wade bank to bank in the Holy Water stretch, with no fear of stepping off into a deep hole; not so in the Big Water, which can present problems for the wade-fisherman. Float- and drift-fishing are common there, as well as in The Trophy Water, the next downstream section of the Au Sable where we’d float-fished for smallmouth bass.” In the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
