With New President, Albright Tackle Grabs a PR Firm

January 3, 2008 By: Marshall Cutchin

Albright Tackle hired Burke White as president in 2007, and now they’ve added Backbone Media to handle their media and public relations. It all comes as they get ready to deliver a broader offering of fly rods, reels and breathable waders in 2008. “Albright was born in the summer of 2003 when Jim Murphy, founder of the Redington Fly Rod Company and Michael Kahn, a successful businessman, avid fly fisher and tournament angler crossed paths. Murphy wanted to continue where he left off with Redington and move on to develop the next generation of performance fly equipment. Kahn liked the sound of that and shortly thereafter the two joined forces and formed Albright Tackle.”

Albright Tackle Expands its Offerings, Hires Burke White as President, and Retains Backbone Media
January 2, 2008 (Jericho, NY) – Albright Tackle, the maker of performance fly fishing rods, reels, and line, hired Burke White as the new president of the company. And with an eye on the future, Albright inked a deal with Colorado based Backbone Media to handle its PR and marketing efforts.
Albright was born in the summer of 2003 when Jim Murphy, founder of the Redington Fly Rod Company and Michael Kahn, a successful businessman, avid fly fisher and tournament angler crossed paths. Murphy wanted to continue where he left off with Redington and move on to develop the next generation of performance fly equipment. Kahn liked the sound of that and shortly thereafter the two joined forces and formed Albright Tackle.
Inspired by the ubiquitous Albright Knot, a knot of simplicity and strength, Murphy and Kahn’s goal was to develop, test and produce a line of performance fly-fishing equipment for the discerning angler, while keeping an eye on the price. As owner Michael Kahn puts it, “If I can’t fish with it myself, then I won’t offer it to our customers.”
In 2007 Burke White was hired as the new president of Albright. With over 15 years of fly industry experience, Burke’s sales, product development and web experience compliments the current approach to Albright’s business. “Innovative product ideas and new sales opportunities exist for Albright Tackle. Our goal is to better serve avid fly anglers and to introduce newcomers to the sport,” says Burke.
Albright continues to focus on providing the best performance and value on the market and their business continues to grow with a broader offering of fly rods, reels and breathable waders. East and West-coast anglers enjoy the benefits of the well-known XX series of saltwater rods designed by fly angling legend Lou Tabory and dedicated to the pursuit of hard-fighting fish like the striped bass. Albright’s reputation is growing among hardcore trout fisherman across the country with its line of lightweight 5-piece A5 travel rods and the large arbor Bugati die cast fly reel.
“Albright is a perfect fit for Backbone,” states co-owner Nate Simmons. “We like their willingness to shake things up and we share their goal of making performance fly fishing gear more obtainable to everyone. We are excited to head into 2008 with Albright.”
