Carbon Fiber Shortage Likely to Raise Fly Rod Prices

May 15, 2006 By: Marshall Cutchin

The ever-growing demand for carbon fiber in the production of large-frame airliners and military equipment threatens to cause dramatic increases in the cost of rod-building material over the next 12 months. “The aviation industry’s appetite for carbon fibre is forcing up the price of fishing rods, kayaks, bikes, skis and tennis rackets. The material is making the newest generation of planes lighter, more fuel efficient, cheaper to fly and environmentally friendly.” David Millward in the U.K. Telegraph.
