The Doodlebug Hatch

It happens to all of us sooner or later: we have fantastic fishing with a choice fly, only to realize later that we could have been fishing with a bare hook and fooled the fish. Nick Mills explores the phenomenon in today’s Virtual Fish column on “You don’t want to confess to that because, of course, there is no Doodlebug hatch, and the Doodlebug resembles no known member of the insect world. In fact, what it resembles more than anything is a cigarette filter that’s come slightly unhinged.” By the way, there’s no indication from the paper, but Nick Mills is a journalism professor at Boston University, which accounts for the fine writing.
