Maine's Androscoggin River

Straddling the Maine/New Hampshire border, the Androscoggin was a very ill patient brought back to life by the ministrations of Trout Unlimited and the Clean Water Act. Now it’s home to a large, self-sustaining population of rainbows and browns

. “For fly casters, 90 percent of the fishing on the Androscoggin is sub-surface. Nymphs and streamers work best, and MacGregor recommended the wooly bugger. He noted that when browns and rainbows grow longer than 18 inches, they feed almost exclusively on bait fish and crayfish.
