The third annual “Carp Throwdown” event will be held June 28, 2014, at Lake Henshaw in California, with both wade and boating divisions. Prizes include gear from Simms, Yeti and Patagonia, among others.

The Carp Throwdown, Southern California’s premier fly fishing event is back for it Junior year.  What started as the brain child on weekend fishing trips has grown into a premier event with statesman and a backbone of support from the biggest manufacturers in the industry.  Sponsoring the tournament this year are Orvis, Scott, Abel, Yeti, Patagonia, Simms, Dyna-King, Catch, Rio, and our very own TheFlyStop.com.

Tournament founders Conway Bowman and Al Q have carried on the grand tradition of camaraderie by bringing in TheFlyStop.com and their brand new Bird Rock Fly Shop in La Jolla, Ca.  By helping out with some of the heavy lifting the tournament is already bigger than usual with weeks to go and sign ups still rising.

Held at fabled Lake Henshaw near Julian, California, the tournament features both wade and boat divisions and uses a scoring system based on points per inch for the five best fish and angler can wrangle.  Additionally secondary prizes, for other special, biggest carp, and most caught are awarded.  All fishing is catch+release and fly fishing only.  The tournament is followed by a pot luck bbq, drinking, story telling and and awards ceremony.  Cabins and cabins and campsites are available.
