Whether it’s deteriorating water quality or loss of sea grass, fishing pressure or the cold snap of 2010, catch-and-release mortality, or a combination of all of these things, bonefish populations in Florida Bay have been steadily and noticeably decreasing. Of intense concern to sport anglers as well as conservationists, studies are being performed by the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust alongside Audubon Florida and the University of Miami in hopes of narrowing down the cause, gathering data that will lead to information for corrective action.
