Photography: Sockeye Salmon in Bristol Bay

When you think of the most “breathtaking shows in Alaska,” the aurora borealis might come to mind. But perhaps even greater are the annual sockeye salmon runs of the Bristol Bay Region, captured via the stunning photography of Seth Casteel in a recent feature in The New York Times.

‘‘When the fish first come in, there’s an electricity in the air, you can see all the classic things you’ve heard about salmon,’’ says biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Robert Begich. “And you can catch some yourself.’’
