Tippets: Hemingway’s Fishing Bag Up for Sale, Water and Wine, Marabou Veiling Technique

  • Next month, fans of Ernest Hemingway will have the opportunity to bid on one of “Papa’s” fishing bags—which includes an inscription to Key Wester Charles Thompson, who was the inspiration for ‘Old Carl’ in The Green Hills of Africa—when it hits the auction block at Bonhams in New York City.
  • Trout Unlimited’s Water and Wine program helps grape growers, wineries, and conservationists work together for the good of wild salmon and steelhead. • Mike Schmidt of Angler’s Choice Flies demonstrates his marabou veiling technique, used to make the material (which is often brittle around the stem) stronger for tying patterns, as well as more durable for on the water.
