Spotting Risers in Low Light

Producer: Jensen Fly Fishing

The peak of summer often brings bright light of mid-day sun and that often puts trout off and keeps them laying low. But as the evening or morning light etches the landscape and the light is low, trout often rise with reckless abandon as mayfly hatches and spinner falls dot the stream’s surface. This is THE time to be on the water. But spotting trout rising to these oft-tiny mayflies in low light isn’t the “gimmie” we’d all want it to be. The rises are often subtle and to the untrained eye or hurried angler – may be missed altogether. Let’s have a look at some ways to find these rising trout in low light.
