“Fly Fishing Hatches: Spring Blue-Winged Olives Part 2”
“Fly fishing hatches and targeting rising trout is what separates dry fly fishing from all other fishing for trout. While a short-lived daily hatch, spring blue-winged olive mayflies provides an excellent opportunity to locate and target rising trout in shallow water. Spring is wrought with cold water temperatures and sluggish trout and relatively few rise to tiny mayflies. But those that do often share the commonality of shallower shelves and seams and the rises can be subtle. And that blue-winged olive hatch can last only 45 minutes, limiting the dry fly fishing opportunity further. Let’s have a look at how we approached and fly fished a short-lived afternoon blue-winged olive hatch.”
