Artist Shirley Cleary

Shirley Cleary

Shirley Cleary has been a sporting artist and a fisherwoman for over 32 years. She has degrees in Fine Art from Washington University in St. Louis and Tyler School of Art of Temple University in Philadelphia. She lives, fishes, and paints in Montana and New Zealand and is represented by galleries in both countries. For many years she only painted in gouache but now also paints in oil and acrylic—with a specific eye for river landscapes, upland game bird hunting imagery, and fly fishing scenes. She was the first artist to receive the National Trout Unlimited Conservation Education Award and is the only woman profiled in “The Fine Art of Angling: Ten Modern Masters.” Articles on her work have been in such publications as American Artist, Art West, and The Artist’s Magazine.
