  • The Climate Shield website hosted by the U.S. Forest Service provides geospatial data and related information on locations of cold-water refuge streams for native Cutthroat Trout and Bull Trout across the U.S.
  • In the fight to protect Bristol Bay, language often gets distorted. Joel Reynolds sets the record straight on The Pebble Partnership’s “Dictionary of Deception,” in a recent article on Switchboard, NRDC.
  • A study published recently in the journal PLOS ONE warns that “unprecedented climate change poses a considerable threat” to the food, cultural, and economic values of First Nations. This includes historic salmon runs and populations. Via The Tyee.
  • The Aquatics Research Section of Colorado Parks and Wildlife was recently awarded the American Fisheries Society Sport Fish Restoration Outstanding Project award for 2015. Award was in recognition of restoration work for rainbow trout populations across the state. Via Colorado TU.
  • In Japan, a group of small-scale fishermen are fighting against industrial fleets that use sonar and nets to scoop up massive catches of spawning tuna. “At the moment the vast majority of Pacific bluefin are being caught in Japanese waters before reproductive age, and it’s effectively mining out the reproductive capacity of that population,” says Amanda Nickson, director of global tuna conservation at the Pew Charitable Trusts.
