Native Fish Society Hires Erica Stock as New Executive Director
The Native Fish Society announced today that Erica Stock has been selected to serve as the organization’s new Executive Director. Founded in 1995, the Native Fish Society advocates for wild, native fish species and the waters that support both people and fish.
“Erica’s passion for wild, native fish, understanding of the science that guides our efforts, and experience growing grassroots networks, will be a huge asset to Native Fish Society. We are very excited as the organization enters a new phase of effective wild fish advocacy under Erica’s direction,” said Rob Elam, NFS Board Chair.
Ms. Stock brings over a decade of experience in the nonprofit and public sectors as a conservation strategist, fundraiser, and grassroots organizer among angling communities. She has held senior positions at Colorado Trout Unlimited, American Rivers, Western Native Trout Initiative, and initially began her career in fisheries conservation at the Wild Salmon Center.
“My life’s passion and focus has been to enable people at the most local level to become effective stewards of their homewaters. Through its River Steward Program, Native Fish Society has created the most effective network of local grassroots volunteers in support of wild, native fish conservation across the Pacific Northwest. I’m incredibly humbled to join such a talented team that’s dedicated to empowering communities and has a long track record of achieving real results for salmon and steelhead.”
For nearly two decades, the Native Fish Society has led major efforts to restore self-sustaining population of wild, native fish in rivers and streams across the Pacific Northwest. With 700 supporting members, its unique network of scientists, concerned citizens and locally-based, volunteer River Stewards, the Native Fish Society works to ensure that sound science informs policy and inspires on-the-ground change to ensure that wild steelhead and salmon are safeguarded in more than 80 rivers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho and northern California.
Ms. Stock will focus her efforts on strategically increasing the capacity of the Native Fish Society so that it can addresses the growing needs of wild, native fish and the grassroots advocates fighting on their behalf.
