Mining Executives Indicted for Polluting Alaskan River
Australian mining executives Bruce Butcher and Mark Balfour, along with three other former employees, have been indicted by a grand jury in the US District Court of Alaska for dumping waste from their platinum mine into Alaska’s Salmon River. The river, which crosses the Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, is important spawning grounds for chinook, chum, coho, pink and sockeye salmon. The defendants face counts of “conspiracy, Clean Water Act permit violations, submitting a Clean Water Act false report and making a false statement.” Via The Courier Mail.
